Product Description
WILLIAMS 5D-SH RECEIVER PEEP SIGHT Available for most of the more popular guns the inexpensive, quality-made 5D sight. These sights are patterned after the Foolproof. They have the same strength, lightweight, and neat appearance, but without the micrometer adjustments. Designed for rugged hunting use, the 5D sights are dependable and accurate. The upper staff of the Williams 5D sight is readily detachable. It is only necessary to loosen one screw so that the upper staff slides easily in the close-fitting dovetail. The angular bushing locks this upper staff in a positive manner. A set screw is provided as a stop screw so that the sight will return to absolute zero upon detaching and reattaching. The material used in the manufacture of the Williams 5D sight is one of the highes grade alloys obtainable. SPECIFICATIONS: - Laboratory tests show that the material used has a tensile strength approximately 25 greater than mild steels. - This high-grade alloy is finished with an anodize in a deep blue-black that adds even further to the strength of the sight by creating an extra hard surface. - Standard thread sizes, the same as used on the Foolproof, permit the use of a wide range of apertures for all sighting conditions.

I very recently bought a Benjamin 392 air rifle, and before I received it, I ordered this Williams 5D sight. My dad mounted virtually the same sight onto a Winchester Model 1894 carbine almost fifty years ago, and it has always worked quite well. Still does.
When I received the sight, it was at most a ten minute job to mount it onto the 392. Obviously, it was designed for this rifle, however, that doesn't always mean it will fit without futzing around. No futzing here at all! There were only the most rudimentary of instructions, but if a guy can't suss something like this out, he just needs to take it to someone who can, so it was the easiest of installs. I used just a taste of Loctite 242 on the screws, then went out to sight it in.
Again, another surprise! It shot almost exactly to point of aim right out of the packaging! Maybe an inch high, windage was perfect, fifteen minutes of fine tuning, and I'm a happy camper. For me, the aperture was a taste large, however, for shooting rats, I'm thinking that the hold will be pretty much perfect. I do intend to get a Williams Twilight Aperture down the road, as I intend to use the rifle for pest control in low light or night conditions.
Overall, I'm very satisfied. It does not appear that the Williams sights have lost and ground in quality over the last fifty years!
No, it is definitely NOT "Okay" but I had to give it 3 stars to get published.
Something here simply does not compute. I ordered this sight on August third, within days of taking delivery of my Crosman Benjamin 392. It did not arrive until today, 11/22. and only after I had a few stern words in reply to the e-mail from the seller a few days ago asking me how I liked it.
Well, sure enough, the pre-tapped holes on the right side of my 392 match up perfectly with the holes in the sight mounting, if you turn it upside down so that the aperture is backwards.
In order to mount it , I would have to clamp that part of the sight into a vice and take a grinder to it. I would have to grind off 15/32 of an inch on the two protusions, one beneath each of the two screw holes on the ends.
Some reviewers say they have no problems. Others cite this same problem - having to grind it to make it fit.
There is not enough room on the rifle for the holes tapped into the rifle to be too low.
The only possible answer that comes to mind is that there are different models of this sight and some of us are receiving the wrong model.
The plastic "safe" mine arrived in has a label with a bar code and the words "XOOOHEUBH7 New- Crosman Williams Peep Sight." Even worse, I just found the cardborad insert that came inside of it. What they sent me was a model 5D-SH. That is listed on the back of the card as being "5D-SH - for Sheridan Blue Streak and Silver Streak Air Rifles." There are descriptions of 6 other sights in the "%D series. NOT ONE is listed as fitting a Crosman-Benjamin Model 392. God only knows how many of us have been sent the wrong damned sight!
I'll be copying the seller, one Don Monfet, the owner of BigTProducts, at support@bigtproducts.com to solve this mystery and either get the right model or a refund.

P.S, I have gone to the website of the manufacturer and find no sight listed as being a fit for a Crosman-Benjamin 392 air rifle. However, the one in the photo on the Amazon site looks like it would fit perfectly. Does anyone who got one that fit a 392 perfectly without modification know the model number of the sight they received?
