We don’t see BBB lead shot all that much. BBB steel shot is often used for goose hunting, as you certainly wouldn’t want to risk running into a game warden with toxic shot in your shells.

American Tactical offers this 410 Bore ammunition for self-defense applications, and it is indeed effective for personal protection with an S&W Governor, Taurus Judge or long gun. Although BBB shot is technically birdshot, twelve 0.19” diameter pellets exiting a long barrel at a velocity of 1,400 fps will undoubtedly leave a mark. At that rate this shell’s entire column of shot will transfer approximately 600 ft lbs of energy to its target. One or two volleys like that, delivered to a threat’s center of mass (or head if you can manage it), should prove enough to end any dangerous encounter.

To be sure, this isn’t a rip roaring powerful load – but if you don’t want your shots to shred through several layers of wallboard, you might consider that a great advantage.

This shell is non-corrosive. Its hull ends in a slight taper to facilitate feeding into a shotgun or revolver’s chamber. Its hull is also clear for easier identification while you’re in a great hurry.
