This 5.56x45 ammunition hails from Marikina City in the Philippines, where Armscor was founded over a century ago. Armscor has recently earned more name recognition in America owing to the popularity of their affordable 1911 handguns, but their ammo wins Armscor plenty of new fans as well.

Many people use 5.56x45 M855 ammunition for target practice with their AR-15 rifles, as its 62 grain FMJ projectile offers good accuracy even over longer distances. (We recommend a 1:9 or 1:8 barrel twist for the best accuracy, although a 1:7 twist will suffice.) But the M855 bullet’s green painted tip indicates that it has something which the conventional FMJ hasn’t: a penetrator core.

The rear section of the M855 bullet is made of solid lead, but its frontal section is pure steel. This does more than make the bullet magnetic. The steel also hardens its tip, enabling the bullet to penetrate sheet metal and other hard barriers at close to medium range.

Armscor’s magnetic bullets are seated in new production brass cases. They are annealed at the neck and shoulder for more efficient ignition as well as repeated reloadability, and their Boxer primers are non-corrosive.
