Air gun suppressors, also known as air gun silencers, are legal in most countries with very few exceptions. In the United States, air gun silencers are regulated by the National Firearms Act of 1934 (NFA) and require a $200 tax stamp for transfer. The process to obtain an air gun suppressor is generally the same as for any other NFA item:
- Find a Class III dealer in your area that deals in suppressors.
- Fill out an ATF Form 4 application which requires fingerprint cards and photographs as well as a Chief Law Enforcement Officer (CLEO) signature indicating they have no objections to you purchasing the suppressor.
- Wait for approval from the ATF which can take several months.
- Once approved, pay the $200 tax and take possession of your suppressor!
You must be 21 years of age or older to purchase an air gun suppressor in the United States. Some states have additional regulations on air gun silencers so be sure to check your local laws before purchasing.
