Not at all. Revolvers are typically reloaded by inserting fresh cartridges into the chambers one at a time. This is in contrast to autoloading pistols, which are typically loaded with a magazine that holds several cartridges.
Some revolvers use detachable magazines, and there are autoloading pistols that use single-shot or revolver-style magazines. So both revolvers and autoloading pistols can exist without magazines. It just depends on how the gun is loaded and reloaded.
