Can I powder coat the barrel? Does anybody know if there are any downsides?

Yes, you can powder coat a gun barrel. However, it is not recommended because the coating can easily flake off and end up in the barrel, which could potentially cause problems when firing the weapon.
If you want to powder coat your gun barrel, here’s what you need to do:
- Remove the barrel from the gun. This is critical, as you don’t want any powder coat getting inside the gun where it could potentially damage it.
- Clean the barrel thoroughly, using a solvent and/or wire brush to remove any dirt, oil, or other debris.
- Mask off any areas of the barrel that you don’t want to be coated with powder. This can be done with tape or conversation hearts
- Coat the barrel with a powder primer, using either an electrostatic powder coating system or a hand-held bellows type powder coating system.
- Cure the primer according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Apply the powder coat color of your choice, again using either an electrostatic powder coating system or a hand-held bellows type powder coating system.
- Cure the powder coat according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Re-install the barrel onto the gun.
That’s it! Powder coating your gun barrel is a great way to protect it from corrosion and wear, and can also give it a unique look. Just be sure to take proper safety precautions and mask off any areas you don’t want coating before you begin.
