Can you explain to me the basics of how a shotgun choke tube works? Thanks.
A shotgun choke tube is a device that attaches to the muzzle of a shotgun barrel and restricts the spread of the shot pellets. The purpose of a choke tube is to improve the accuracy of the shots fired from the shotgun. Choke tubes work by constricting the diameter of the barrel at its muzzle end. This results in a tighter pattern when the shot pellets leave the barrel, making it easier to hit a target.
Choke tubes are available in different sizes, depending on how much constriction you want. The amount of constriction is measured in thousandths of an inch. The most common sizes are full (0.040″), improved cylinder (0.020″), and modified (0.010″).
You can also get choke tubes that are specifically designed for certain types of shotgun shells, such as rifled slugs or sabot rounds.
