Installing a bolt carrier group (BCG) and charging handle is a relatively simple task that can be accomplished in a matter of minutes. Here are the basic steps:
- Remove the old BCG and charging handle from your AR-15 upper receiver.
- Clean the interior of the upper receiver, paying particular attention to the threads for installing new parts. You may want to use a bore brush or other cleaning tool to remove any stubborn dirt or grime.
- Inspect the new BCG and charging handle for any damage or defects. Touch up any rough edges with a file or sandpaper as needed.
- Lubricate the new BCG and charging handle with a quality gun oil or lubricant.
- Install the new BCG into the upper receiver, being careful not to damage the charging handle slot as you insert it.
- Securely tighten the Bolt Carrier Group in place using the appropriate size wrench or tool.
- Install the charging handle into the upper receiver, again being careful not to damage the slot as you insert it.
- Test the fit of the charging handle by moving it back and forth to make sure it moves smoothly. If it is binding or catching, disassemble and inspect for any damage or debris that may be causing the problem.
- That’s it! You’ve now installed a new Bolt Carrier Group and charging handle into your AR-15 upper receiver.
