The process of taking off a flash suppressor is dependent on the type of firearm that you have. For example, an AR-15-style rifle will require you to remove the muzzle device with a muzzle brake adaptor or a similar device to unscrew the flash suppressor. Whereas, on an AK-47 style rifle, you would need to drive out the pin that retains the front sight gas block assembly to remove the flash hider. You should consult your gun’s documentation or manufacturer for specific instructions.
In general, however, these are the steps you would need to take to remove a flash suppressor:
- Make sure your weapon is unloaded and safety engaged
- Orient yourself so that the muzzle is pointing away from you and anyone else in the area
- Unscrew or unclip the flash suppressor from the barrel
- Remove the flash suppressor
You may need a specialized tool, such as a strap wrench, to remove a particularly tight or rusted-on flash suppressor. Use caution when removing the flash suppressor, as the barrel may be hot from a recent firing. Wear gloves if possible to avoid burning yourself.
