It depends on the type of flash suppressor.
For a simple, external-thread flash suppressor, you first need to remove the old one. Take off the collar and unscrew the flash suppressor from the barrel. Make sure that you keep track of all the parts – there are usually several springs and small pieces that can easily get lost.
Next, install the new crush washer by placing it over the threads at the end of the barrel. The lip of the washer should be facing outwards so that it makes contact with the Flash Suppressor when it is screwed on.
Then screw on your new Flash Suppressor adapter, making sure that it’s tight against the crush washer. Test it out to make sure it’s installed correctly and that the barrel is still threaded.
If you have an internal-thread flash suppressor, the process is a little different. First, remove the old flash suppressor by unscrewing it from the inside of the barrel. Again, keep track of all the parts and pieces.
It depends on the rifle. There is no one-size-fits-all answer since each rifle has its proprietary flash suppressor and barrel threading.
However, there are a few general tips that can help:
- Consult your rifle’s owner’s manual to find out what type of flash suppressor or muzzle brake your rifle uses, and how to remove it.
- If you’re not sure how to remove the old flash suppressor, consult a gunsmith or watch a video online.
- Purchase a new crush washer for your specific rifle and size of flash suppressor/muzzle brake.
- Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for installing the new crush washer and flash suppressor/muzzle brake.
- Once the new flash suppressor/muzzle brake is installed, take your rifle to the range and test it out.
A step-by-step guide on how to install a flash suppressor and crush washer can be found here:
- First, remove the old muzzle device by unscrewing it from the barrel.
- Next, slide the new muzzle device onto the barrel. It should fit snugly.
- Now, use a punch or a drill bit to create a hole in the center of the crush washer. The hole should be just big enough for the screw to fit through.
- Put the crush washer over the end of the muzzle device and make sure it’s centered properly.
- Screw on the flash hider or compensator until it’s tight against the crush washer. Make sure not to overtighten it.
- That’s it! Your new muzzle device is now installed.
There are a few ways to install a flash suppressor. You can use a vise, but most people just use their hands. If you’re using a vise, clamp the barrel into the vise and then put the flash suppressor on and tighten it down.
If you’re using your hand, hold the barrel with one hand and use the other hand to put the flash suppressor on. You’ll want to twist it as you put it on to make sure it’s tight. Once it’s on, use a wrench to tighten it down – this will crush the washer so that it makes a good seal.
Make sure that you don’t overtighten the flash suppressor, as this can damage the barrel. Just snug it down tight and then give it an extra quarter turn to be sure.
